  • Understand current economic conditions related to local government financial management

  • Secure up-to-date information about Internal Revenue Service requirements for Taxable Fringe Benefits and Independent Contractor Reporting on Form 1099

  • Explore internal control procedures appropriate for reducing the risk of fraud

  • Learn about insurance costs and healthcare trends and what employers can do to mitigate such costs

Wednesday, July 23 

12:00 PM Golf outing:  

Take a break and network with colleagues at the Downstate golf outing at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley, IL (20-25 miles from Starved Rock).  Tee times will be at 12:00 p.m., 12:08 p.m. and 12:15 p.m.   Register by July 10, 2008 using the on-line registration form at www.igfoa.org 

1:00 pm Guided Hike:

A guided 1 hour hike to either the Top of Starved Rock and French Canyon or Wildcat Canyon. 

5:30 pm Reception:   

Reception and networking in the Great Hall West in Starved Rock Lodge. 

Hors D’ Oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.

6:30 pm Dinner:      

 A buffet dinner will be served in the Great Hall West in Starved Rock Lodge

Sessions will be held at the Starved Rock Lodge & Conference Center

Diane Swonk, Senior Managing Director and Chief Economist for Mesirow Financial, will speak about the Midwest Economy and the Credit Crisis 

10:15 – 11:45 am  Ted Knapp from the IRS will speak on IRS requirements for Taxable Fringe Benefits and Independent Contractor Reporting on Form 1099

11:45 am – 1:00 pm 

Lunch will be served in the Great West Hall of the Lodge
1:00 – 2:00 pm

Kelly Zabinski, CPA of Zabinski Consulting Group, will speak on Internal Controls related to fraud protection

2:15 – 3:15 pm   Dennis Bautista of the Horton Group will talk about insurance costs
