Collection The IGFOA does not collect personal information from people visiting the public areas of the website. All of the website’s public areas may be accessed without disclosing any personal information. The IGFOA membership directory is a private directory available exclusively to our members. The IGFOA collects personal information through its membership directory and registration forms. Information collected in the membership directory consists of contact information, group, committee, and dues status.

The completion of registration forms may necessitate providing financial information, such as a credit card number. Registration forms are administered through a third-party service which uses SSL certification. Financial data related to “Form Module” is passed via SSL data encryption. All financial transactions are processed via a third-party encryption service.

From time to time, the IGFOA may provide you with the opportunity to complete surveys via our website. Surveys are conducted using a third-party service and are used to gather information that enables the IGFOA to better serve its members. Participation in these surveys is strictly voluntary; therefore, you have a choice whether or not to participate. If you choose to participate, certain personally identifiable information, such as contact information, may be requested from you. Survey information will not be disclosed without the expressed consent of the user, unless as required by law.


Personal contact information is used for mailings and emails related to IGFOA tasks (i.e. renewal information, newsletters, service announcements, jobline, etc.). The IGFOA will never use your contact information for tasks unrelated to those of the Association.

We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our website.

Data Sharing

As a member of the IGFOA, you are part of a network of government finance professionals and the firms that service them. The membership directory is an important tool in facilitating member interaction within the network. Consequently, membership profile contact information is accessible to all other IGFOA members within the directory. A member has the ability to hide all or part of his/her profile from other members. The IGFOA uses a third-party company, Memberclicks, to facilitate directory operations. The IGFOA will not sell information contained within the membership directory.

The IGFOA online directory also contains various public forums listed on the bulletin board portion of the website. Any information posted on these bulletin boards is accessible to other members. Consequently, the IGFOA recommends discretion when posting information to these public forums. The IGFOA is not responsible for any personally identifiable information submitted in these forums.

Information Revisions

All personal information may be revised through the membership directory, with the exception of your place of employment. Any changes to your government or firm of employment must be made by IGFOA personnel.


During your visit to the IGFOA website, certain information is automatically gathered regarding your visit, but not yourself. This information includes:

  • Your internet domain
  • Your IP address (an IP address is a number automatically assigned to a computer whenever it is surfing the internet)
  • Type of browser and operating system
  • The date and time of access to our site
  • The pages you visited and the length of time
  • The website address from which you accessed the IGFOA website

This information is collected in order to understand the ways visitors use our website. Data collection is not associated with your personal information.

Email/Telephone Contact

The IGFOA will not ask for your social security number, driver’s license number, or credit card number in an unsolicited email or telephone call. If you are in receipt of such a call, please assume that it is a hoax and do not reply. In addition, be suspicious of links in emails that do not appear to have been generated by the IGFOA. If you wish to subscribe to our newsletter(s), such as Dispatch or Jobline, the IGFOA will use your name, address, and email in order to send the newsletter(s) to you. Out of respect for your privacy, you may choose to not receive these newsletters.

The IGFOA will only send service-related announcements as necessary, such as when internet service is temporarily suspended. You do not have the option to opt-out of receiving these announcements.
