The Village of Westchester, IL (population 16,892) is a diverse and professionally-managed non-home rule municipality located approximately 14 miles west of Chicago in Cook County. We are seeking a qualified village Accountant to complement our management team. 

 Requirements: 

 The successful candidate will be committed to providing outstanding customer service, have high ethical standards, have a strong attention to detail and accuracy, and be able to communicate effectively. This position requires a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in governmental accounting and reporting.  Experience within a municipal organization or not-for-profit organization that uses fund accounting is desirable.  Must have the ability to learn and use management information systems at an advanced level, and be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).

 This position requires a familiarity with payroll, utility billing, cash receipts, accounts receivable and accounts payable.  Must ensure courteous and efficient service to Village residents and staff. 

 Responsibilities of this position include:  

 Working with a staff of at least three to four employees in the Finance/Administration department. 

  • Maintaining and overseeing staff working with the financial accounting system – Caselle Clarity. 
  • Recording transactions, journal entries, and updating and reconciling the general ledger. 
  • Establishing and maintaining cash controls. 
  • Preparation of all required analyses, documentation, and disclosures supporting the Village’s Annual Financial Report and supporting audit schedules and auditor’s requests. 
  • Assisting in the preparation of the monthly and quarterly financial reports presented to the Board.  
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget.  
  • Monitoring department expenditures as compared to the budget.
  • Preparing the Annual Treasurer’s Report and related filings.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.  

This position reports to the Accounting Manager/Finance Director and Village Manager.  The applicant must have the ability to work independently, exercising good judgment and initiative.  This position is classified as a full-time, exempt position.  Position will remain open until filled and we will expedite hiring for the right candidate.  Starting salary range is $75,000 - $80,000 DOQ.  Excellent benefits package.
