The Village of Glenview, a dynamic and financially strong community with a wide variety of beautiful neighborhoods, active commercial districts, world-class schools and parks, seeks progressive candidates to serve as its next Deputy Finance Director as part of the Village’s outsourced finance team. Located in Cook County approximately 20 miles north of the downtown Chicago loop and 10 miles northeast of Chicago O’Hare Airport, Glenview has been chosen by several Fortune 500 companies as the location for their headquarters and research facilities.

 

The Deputy Finance Director position serves under the Finance Director, who is part of the outsourced finance team provided by Lauterbach & Amen, LLP, and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the finance department, including direct supervision responsibilities. Lauterbach & Amen, LLP is searching for a full-time Deputy Finance Director to join our financial services team and assist in servicing the Village.

Areas of Responsibility Include:

 

  • Managing, scheduling, and overseeing the daily operation of the finance department, including supervision of the payroll process, supporting the procurement process, and reporting directly to the Finance Director.
  • Managing and overseeing all budgeting and financial reporting preparation and distribution.
  • Supporting the Village’s Capital Improvement Program.
  • Assisting with year-end reporting and audit work paper preparation.
  • Assisting the Finance Director in the development of staff and department priorities, growth and objectives as well as maintaining proper execution of internal controls. Participating in personnel training, and review and corrective measures as necessary.
  • Attending and preparing for board meetings, including creating agendas and presenting on various topics.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of accounting standards and ongoing applicable legislation as it relates to the department.
  • Responding to all Village concerns in a professional and swift manner, ensuring proper and effective resolutions.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field of study
  • 5 + years of Government accounting experience
  • CPA or actively pursuing a license (preferred)
  • Supervisory experience is a plus
  • Ability to attend meetings outside of normal business hours occasionally
  • Strong verbal & written communication abilities with various levels of management & public speaking
  • Consistent ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solve
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an inclusive/collaborative management style
  • Ability to multi-task, establish priorities & organize efficiently
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with strong initiative
  • Committed to strategic planning, excellence in customer services, and process improvement for enhanced operational management
  • Skilled in MS Office programs and experience in financial/accounting software systems, preferably Tyler Munis
