Senior Accountant

Finance Department

 The Village of Niles is seeking qualified applicants for the position of a full-time Senior Accountant. This position holds a management role to assist the Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director in supervisory responsibilities, decision making, preparation of the annual financial audit, preparation of reports used in management decisions, and to ensure the accuracy and flow of financial information.

 

In exchange for outstanding skills, the Village is offering a salary range of $82,231 – $111,012, depending on qualifications. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Review financial information, reconcile accounts, and preparation or approval of appropriate journal    entries as needed for financial areas including, but not limited to, payroll, banking, purchasing, daily deposits, disbursements, billing, collection, and fixed assets;
  • Report key financial data to senior management;
  • Assist with completion of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) including, but not limited to, a significant amount of account analysis at fiscal year-end, preparation or review of closing entries, preparation and/or review of audit schedules, review of draft audit report(s), and complete all subsequent associated audit filings to related agencies;
  • Prepare annual tax increment financing (TIF) reports and file with related agencies;
  • Verify deposit amounts and confirm against daily cash reports before sending to bank;
  • Maintain and reconcile activity for escrows (such as engineering or fire hydrant escrows), deposits (such as street and parkway deposits), reimbursements (such as flood control or rear yard drainage reimbursements), and easement grants;
  • Supervise and direct responsibilities and assignments of Accounting Assistants, Accountant I (AR), and Switchboard Operation/Receptionist, as well as seasonal staff and other staff as assigned;
  • Identify operating problems within the department and develop solutions, working with senior management and other Village staff;
  • Review quality and quantity of production in operating areas;
  • Maintain a working knowledge and comply with the ordinances, laws, and accounting standards that relate to areas of financial responsibility including, but not limited to, all Village ordinances; Federal, State, and County laws; and accounting or reporting standards related to Finance Department operations;
  • Review month end transactions of the Finance Department to ensure timeliness and accuracy; and
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting.  Alternatively, possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Finance or substantially similar area having taken intermediate accounting classes;
  • Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience;
  • Knowledge of GAAP;
  • Intermediate experience with spreadsheets;
  • Experience in a municipal environment with knowledge of fund accounting, internal control concepts, and GASB standards is strongly preferred;
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA certification and/or CPFO designation is preferred, but not required.
