The Village of Huntley is a vibrant, growing community of approximately 29,000 residents located at the crossroads of Interstate 90 and Illinois Route 47, approximately 45 miles northwest of Chicago in southern McHenry County and northern Kane County.  

General Duties: This position is responsible for preparing bi-weekly and monthly payroll and is considered a “Lead Payroll Administrator”, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and timely, and that the Village in is compliance with all related payroll tax laws.  This position is required to remain current with changing tax and pension laws as well as regulations concerning payroll administration and is expected to continuously seek efficiencies in the payroll administration system.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensuring compliance with all payroll functionality; plan, coordinate, prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll; ensure all payroll taxes are correctly calculated and remitted to the appropriate agencies; oversee time keeping system and review timesheet submittals; prepare journal entries as assigned; prepare documentation for union negotiations and annual budget; assist in annual audit; assist with Police Pension Fund administration; and perform other miscellaneous projects, tasks and provide assistance as assigned.

Qualifications (Education & Experience): The successful candidate will have an Associate's degree in Accounting or related field, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience administering payroll.  A combination of education and experience will be considered. Certification as a Certified Payroll Professional is desired, or the ability to obtain within two years of date of hire.  This position requires strong attention to detail and excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.  Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. Municipal experience a plus.

Compensation:  The salary range for this position is $61,074 - $86,150 with an expected starting salary of $65,000 +/- depending on experience and qualifications.  The position includes a comprehensive benefits package and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

Hours: Forty (40) hours per week, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
