IGFOA President's Update on COVID-19 - April 7, 2020

Posted April 7, 2020 in IGFOA updates

To IGFOA Members, Partners and Colleagues,

I hope everyone is doing as well as you can be and staying safe. These are some trying times ahead and while I know the path forward is difficult, I also know we will emerge stronger in the end due partly to having each other to rely and depend on as we continue to do our jobs in unconventional ways, and having to prioritize day-to-day and week-to-week. As we all deal with the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, IGFOA remains committed to supporting its members through the upcoming weeks, and I wanted to communicate some of the ways in which IGFOA is here to help.

1. Updates from the Illinois Municipal League (IML) on COVID-19 – be sure to check your email daily for an IGFOA broadcast with IML’s most recent information and resources. IML maintains a comprehensive list of resources and current information on its dedicated webpage IML COVID-19 Resources.
2. Information on other relevant resources – the national GFOA has a Resource Center for Coronavirus Response and the State of Illinois also has a Coronavirus Response webpage and FAQs
3. IGFOA Knowledge Exchange – make sure you are participating in the member dialogue and receiving timely notifications. The Knowledge Exchange is a peer-to-peer forum for members to share questions, answers, and ideas. All IGFOA members can participate, both public sector and partners. Sign in to your IGFOA profile and be a part of the dialogue.
4. Updates on items of importance to members – such as the Governmental Accounting Standards Board’s (GASB) plan to review a proposed statement that would postpone the effective dates of provisions of certain pronouncements. The GASB will consider releasing the document for public comment during the April 14, 2020 teleconference.
5. Webinars – IGFOA is transitioning to the GoToWebinar platform for delivering online training. The Professional Education Committee is reviewing how to provide timely training on critical topics when the data and information evolves daily.
6. Virtual Meetings & Roundtables – IGFOA is also working on developing virtual ways for our members to stay connected with each other and share ideas, especially on how to navigate the uncertainties that lie ahead.

As previously noted, IGFOA continues to closely monitor and follow the advice and direction from the State of Illinois, CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. The health, safety, and welfare of IGFOA members, coworkers, and community members remains our top priority.

At this time June and July events as well as the Annual Conference in September are proceeding as planned. However, IGFOA will continue to monitor and provide updates on these events as information becomes available

IGFOA is here to support its members through these challenging times. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Stay well and safe and I hope to see you all someday soon.

Thanks,
Bill Hannah
President, IGFOA
