DESCRIPTION:The Downstate Chapter Quad Cities Region invites you to join th
em for a fraud/forensics mystery workshop and luncheon on Thursday\, June
 27\, 2024 at MetroLINK & Johnny's Italian Steakhouse in Moline\, IL.\nPart
1:  A strong system of internal controls not only deters fraud but also s
upports greater efficiency and legal compliance within the local governmen
t business function. This seminar identifies types and common methods of e
mployee dishonesty\, the role of the external auditor to detect fraud\, an
d the personality of a fraudster. The Committee of Sponsoring Organization
s (COSO) system is discussed and the all-important concept of separation o
f duties is presented in a practical\, easy to apply context.  And because
fraud can and will happen\, the appropriate way to handle the shock and r
esulting investigation is outlined. \nPart 2:  You will often be put in a
leadership role in an investigation. The difference between a successful i
nvestigation and a failed opportunity is often the mindset of the leader.
This session identifies and develops the abductive reasoning applied by a
skilled investigator which is necessary to solve a financial puzzle or sus
pected incident of fraud. To illustrate the difference between an audit mi
ndset and abductive reasoning\, the participants will visit a staged crime
scene and solve the murder by “following the evidence”. While making a se
rious point with real professional application\, this session is both fun
and thought provoking. \nLearning Objectives:  Participants completing thi
