DESCRIPTION:PM Session – 2019 Illinois Public Pension Institute II\nETHICS
AND ACCOUNTABILITY AT WORK (FOR PUBLIC SERVICE ORGANIzATIONS) (1:00PM - 4:
 40 PM)\nSpeaker: Peter Burchard\, President\, Peter Burchard\, LLC\nFor th
e agenda\, click here.\nDescription: Ethics is about how people think and
act. Ethics is grounded in how we see ourselves and others. In other words
\, ethics is about people – starting with our own self-awareness.\nUnfortu
nately\, today’s familiar lessons and laws regarding ethics and workplace
behavior\, when taught and applied correctly\, may actually impede the lea
rning and morality required of elected officials\, managers\, employees\,
and the public. Further\, to the extent that it can be understood and diff
erentiated\, public service ethics may necessitate personal sacrifice to a
ct in the public interest. When it comes to acts of corruption\, Peter sug
gests\, the goal should not be rooting out the next Rita but in seeing the
slippery slope that ordinary people unknowingly participate in.\nIn this
content-rich framework\, Peter discusses how to grow one’s own ethical com
petence. Participants will re-examine a truth they deeply know – that ethi
cs is not found in polishing up one’s personality traits but in one’s dail
y grind of conversations\, conflicts and decisions. This half-day session
is presented in three parts with ten (10) primary learning objectives.\nLe
