BLOCK OF ORGANIZATIONAL TRUST (8:25 AM - 12:10 PM)\nSpeaker: David Limardi
\, Managing Director\, Limardi Consulting LLC\nDescription: Trust facilita
tes the democratic process and trust in government is alarmingly low.  An
ethical organizational structure is imperative to building and maintaining
trust and to long term organizational success.  Ethical organizational le
adership is the answer to increasing and maintaining trust in government o
rganizations as well as maintaining the engagement and commitment of those
involved in the work of the organization. It requires the organizational
leader to commit to the study and development of ethical standards of beha
vior which are clearly communicated to those within the organization. Rese
arch has shown that organizational leaders who communicate and promote an
ethical organizational structure reduce unethical practices and behaviors

\, Peter Burchard\, LLC\nDescription: Ethics is about how people think and
act. Ethics is grounded in how we see ourselves and others. In other word
s\, ethics is about people – starting with our own self-awareness.\nUnfort
unately\, today’s familiar lessons and laws regarding ethics and workplace
behavior\, when taught and applied correctly\, may actually impede the le
arning and morality required of elected officials\, managers\, employees\,
and the public. Further\, to the extent that it can be understood and dif
ferentiated\, public service ethics may necessitate personal sacrifice to
act in the public interest. When it comes to acts of corruption\, Peter su
ggests\, the goal should not be rooting out the next Rita but in seeing th
e slippery slope that ordinary people unknowingly participate in.\nIn this
content-rich framework\, Peter discusses how to grow one’s own ethical co
mpetence. Participants will re-examine a truth they deeply know – that eth
