A Message from the IGFOA President Regarding COVID-19

Posted March 17, 2020 in IGFOA updates

To All IGFOA Members, Partners and Colleagues,

IGFOA is aware of the significant effects that COVID-19 is having on your organizations and communities and the extraordinary measures being taken to ensure the well-being of everyone. While IGFOA is committed to providing the best possible training and networking opportunities, the health, safety, and welfare of IGFOA members, coworkers, and community members is our top priority.

IGFOA is closely monitoring and following the advice and direction from the State of Illinois, CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. Social distancing is a key recommendation for prevention. On March 15th, the CDC recommended “organizers cancel or postpone events that consist of 50 or more people and that events of any size should be carried out with adherence to guidelines.”

Given the CDC direction along with the travel bans for many member communities for non-essential meetings and events, IGFOA has decided to cancel all scheduled April events.

Thank you to those who have registered for April training events, and we apologize for any inconvenience. IGFOA staff will begin cancelling registrations and processing refunds.

May events are proceeding as planned, including the IGFOA social event at the GFOA Annual Conference in New Orleans. However, IGFOA will continue to monitor and provide updates on May events as information becomes available.

In the meantime, resources and current information can be found on the Illinois Municipal League’s dedicated webpage, https://iml.org/covid.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

Thanks, and I hopefully look forward to seeing you all in the near future.

Bill Hannah
President, IGFOA
