Updated Rules for Electronic Records Management

The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) approved changes to the administrative rules for the State Records Commission and both of the Local Records Commissions.

Local Agencies: 
There is major revision of language in all sections. Highlights are: added many definitions; changed disposal lead time from 60 days to 30 days; added “rolling disposal” language; added new sections addressing digitization and management of electronic records (sections .70 and .80); and, added appendices for storage media and file formats.

No major changes from the 2013 revisions. Highlights include: updated/tweaked language and definitions for clarity; added “rolling disposal” language and sunrise clauses to e-records sections; and, added appendices for storage media and file formats.
