ASP Chicago Presents:
Public Corruption and Business’ Bottom Line

Presenter  David Greising, President & CEO of Better Government Association (BGA)

Through the lens of the Better Government Association -- currently keeping score of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s ethics record and pushing for reform in Springfield--questions arise as to whether intent and actions can put a dent in corruption, create real reform, and tackle murky finances in Chicago and Illinois. The stakes for business are higher than ever.

About the Presenter: David Greising  President and CEO of BGA

David Greising is the President and CEO of the Better Government Association. Since joining the organization in March of 2018, he has led the BGA in its mission of investigative journalism, policy advocacy and civic engagement activity to hold government accountable in the state of Illinois.

Under Greising’s leadership, the BGA has published in-depth investigations into Ald. Ed Burke’s conflicts of interest, the history of corrupt and wasteful contracting at O’Hare and the proliferation of public corruption and poverty in Dalton, Lyons and other Chicago suburbs. The BGA’s policy team has led a push for ethics reform in Chicago’s City Council, and the BGA has secured access to the emails of Chicago mayors and won numerous court rulings and legislative actions that expand access to public records.

Prior to the BGA, Greising’s career took him from the City News Bureau of Chicago to the Chicago Sun-Times, Business Week magazine, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago News Cooperative and Reuters. He also served for a year as strategic consultant to World Business Chicago, a public-private economic development agency. He is a graduate of DePauw University.

Greising has reported from five continents, wrote a business column for the Tribune, and wrote the business plan and was managing editor for the Chicago News Cooperative, a nonprofit journalism startup. Today, Greising writes on government accountability issues in regular columns for the Tribune and Crain’s Chicago Business and is a featured guest on television and radio stations across Illinois.
