Event Description

Join two local government experts from the Illinois Office of Comptroller Local Debt Recovery Program (LDRP) and Local Government Division (LGD) for a roundtable discussion that will cover two distinct topics for local governments.

Part 1 will provide an overview of the LDRP and how the LDRP team can provide services—at no charge to the local governments—to help collect unpaid debts such as parking tickets, ordinance violations, traffic fines, court fines, administrative judgments, utility bills, and tuition and fees. It will also explain the procedures and debt requirements for local governments to enroll in the program. The discussion will then delve into the three divisions of LDRP, including the specific roles and responsibilities within the team, and demonstrate how they provide support in the collection process. Finally, attendees will be given a brief review of the Illinois Debt Recovery Offset Portal (IDROP), which is a one-stop shop where the entities upload their outstanding debts, manage their users accounts, maintain balances of their debt records, and create or receive daily reports on offsets and consolidated payments.

Part 2 will present on the topic of local government financial reporting requirements to the Illinois Office of Comptroller, breaking down the statute to help local governments understand what reports are due and how to get started.

Speakers: George Alonistiotis, Director Local Debt Recovery Program and Rosanna Barbaro-Flores, Director Local Government Division
