Mahomet, IL (9,434) – The Village of Mahomet is seeking a talented and dedicated professional to join its high performing management team as the Director of Finance. This is a tremendous professional opportunity to become a part of a municipal organization in a dynamic, prosperous, and growing community in Central Illinois. Nestled on the banks of the scenic Sangamon River and settled in 1832, Mahomet is the oldest community in Champaign County. The Village is also the fastest growing municipality in the region and has experienced unprecedented residential and commercial development over the past decade. However, despite this enviable growth, the community has retained its charm and small-town friendliness.

The Mahomet-Seymour public school system is a driving force in attracting many families to locate in the community. The school district’s excellent academic reputation and highly competitive and acclaimed sports, dance, drama, band, and music programs, is a magnet for families seeking an outstanding public school system for their children. The community also boasts a new state-of-the-art Middletown Prairie Elementary School for pre-K and full-day kindergarten programs. In 2015, Mahomet was ranked 3rd in the State and 35th in the Nation by Niche for “Best Towns to Raise a Family” based on school ratings, crime rates, age demographics, access to affordable housing and childcare.

Mahomet has several beautiful and scenic residential subdivisions currently under development with more in the planning stages. In addition to the residential construction boom, the community’s business sector, including retail, commercial, and light industry, are also experiencing record gains. The Village of Mahomet has invested millions of dollars to extend roads, water service, and sanitary sewer service to support the continued growth of the community. The Village has also developed its own fiber-optic network to support a cutting high-speed broadband system that serves businesses, schools, and residential customers.

Outdoor recreational opportunities abound in Mahomet. The Village is home to two (2) Forest Preserves: Lake of the Woods is a 900-acre rolling wooded area centrally located in Mahomet, and Riverbend Forest Preserve located in southwest Mahomet with 130 acres of clear water lakes. You can walk, run, or bike on miles of paved and natural trails; fish on the largest lake in Champaign County; enjoy 18 holes of golf, picnic, and cross-country ski. Museum of the Grand Prairie, Champaign County’s only Covered Bridge and the iconic HI-Tower Bell Carillon observation deck rising six stories above the park.

In addition to the Forest Preserves, the Village’s Parks and Recreation Department offers an outstanding array of recreational programs for all ages and all interests. Youth recreation programs including soccer, basketball, t-ball, baseball, softball, and flag football are extremely popular. With over 100 acres of open space spread across ten park locations, the Village offers a variety of outdoor activities for all ages to enjoy.

The Village is located just a short drive to Champaign-Urbana giving its residents quick access to the world-renowned University of Illinois, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Big 10 athletic events, an exciting urban nightlife, and a vast array of cultural opportunities. The Village of Mahomet operates under a President-Trustee form of government with a full-time Village Administrator. It has an annual budget for FY2022 of $25.4 million and 38 full-time employees, along with seasonal and part-time positions. The Finance Director will report directly to the Village Administrator. The Finance Department consists of three full-time employees. The Finance Department currently uses Civic Systems/Caselle financial software platform for all Village’s accounting and financial management activities.

The Finance Director oversees and manages all financial affairs and activities of the municipality including:
• Professional accounting, preparing monthly financial reports, reconciling bank statements, budget preparation and forecasting, auditing, debt management and administration, financial planning, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, risk management, pension administration, and human resource functions.
• Performs all Treasurer’s duties as required by State statute including annual tax levy.

The Village is hoping to attract candidates with the following skills and qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or some other closely related field of study.
• A Master’s degree and/or certification as a CPA, CIMT, or CPFO is desirable but not required.
• 5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial services, investment, budget development, government, non-profit finance, or other closely related experience is ideal.
• A thorough understanding of the principles and practices of financial management and accounting
• Government related finance, accounting, and/or budget experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of municipal budgeting, municipal tax levy and treasury management, fund accounting, internal control procedures, revenue forecasting, and related computer applications is preferred.
