Accounting Manager

An organization with a long-standing culture for employee job satisfaction, the outgoing manager is retiring after more than 18 years with the Village. This is a supervisory position coordinating work assignments and activities of subordinates under the position’s direct supervision. Work requires the use of seasoned judgment in the direction of subordinates and involves the responsibility of overseeing various administrative functions including the oversight of accounting and bookkeeping work, records maintenance and preparing reports on financial transactions. Work also involves responsibility for verifying and reporting financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and purchasing. Work is performed with considerable independence and involves assisting less experienced personnel with questions or problems on accounting practices and procedures. Work is performed within the framework of established procedures, policies, rules, and regulations governing the recording and reporting of financial transactions.
Position Qualifications/Skills
o Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, business or related field. The Village may accept a combination of education and training.
o Five to seven years of relevant experience.
o CPA preferred but not required.
o Thorough knowledge of modern accounting or bookkeeping practices, procedures and methods.
o Prior experience with Housing Authority accounting preferred.
o Thorough knowledge of automated accounting systems.
o Knowledge of municipal fund accounting, including IMRF and police and fire pension systems (Article III and IV) preferred. Prior experience as an IMRF Authorized Agent preferred.
o Knowledge of BSA Fund Accounting Software preferred.
Salary
Starting for this position is $88,250 - 94,535 per year, depending on qualifications.
