Job Title: Accounting Supervisor 

Location: Glenview, IL

Located in Cook County approximately 20 miles north of the downtown Chicago loop and 10 miles northeast of Chicago O’Hare Airport, Glenview has been chosen by several Fortune 500 companies as the location for their headquarters and research facilities.  

The Senior Accountant position serves under the Finance Director, who is part of the outsourced finance team provided by Lauterbach & Amen and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the finance department, including direct supervision responsibilities. Lauterbach & Amen is searching for a full-time Accounting Supervisor to join our Client Accounting & Advisory Services team and assist in servicing the Village.

Areas of Responsibility Include: 

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and general ledger accounts. 
  • Complete month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjusting entries. 
  • Perform complex bank and investment account reconciliations, research and resolve discrepancies, and ensure the accuracy of all cash-related transactions.   
  • Prepare financial reports and assist in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and other government reporting requirements.  
  • Assist with the preparation for the annual external audit, including compiling schedules, preparing supporting documentation, and responding to auditor requests.  
  • Monitor budgets and analyze revenues and expenditures.  
  • Assist with grant reporting, capital asset accounting, and other assigned accounting functions.  
  • Provide financial support and guidance to other departments and team members.  
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency.  
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field of study 
  • 3-7 years of Government/Municipal accounting experience required 
  • CPA or actively pursuing a license (preferred) 
  • Strong verbal & written communication abilities with various levels of management & public speaking  
  • Consistent ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solve 
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities as needed 
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with strong initiative 
  • Committed to strategic planning, excellence in customer services, and process improvement for enhanced operational management 
  • Skilled in MS Office programs and experience in financial/accounting software systems, preferably Tyler Munis
