Elk Grove Village, Illinois (pop. 33,127), a strategically located, progressive community home to the largest consolidated business park in North America, is seeking an innovative, visionary leader with hands-on experience as our next Deputy Director of Finance. Elk Grove Village is located in Cook and DuPage Counties adjacent to O’Hare International Airport and is home to approximately 3,400 businesses in its 6-square-mile Business Park.
The Finance Department is dedicated to providing residents and businesses with exceptional government financial management. The Finance Department is responsible for the fiscal oversight and financial management of the Village. Specifically, this includes revenue collection and disbursement of funds, cash management and investments, risk management, budgeting, and debt administration. The position is under the general direction of the Director of Finance and will work closely with all members of the Finance Department. This is a management-exempt position within the Village’s merit pay plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides professional and responsive customer service while promoting a positive image of the Finance Department and Village and maintaining high ethical standards.
- Ensures inquires, requests, and issues are addressed promptly and professionally.
- Provides leadership, mentoring, and professional development to staff while promoting continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.
- Communicates effectively with Village officials, employees, outside agencies, residents, and vendors regarding financial matters and departmental operations.
- Monitors changes in legislation and accounting standards as they relate to department functions and implements departmental procedures necessary to maintain compliance.
- Serves as the Department’s subject matter expert for the Village’s ERP and financial systems and coordinates system maintenance, enhancements, vendor support, and user training.
- Assists in managing the Village’s financial planning functions, including annual budget preparation, forecasting, and long-term fiscal strategy.
- Assists the Finance Director with special projects, including financial analysis, research, reporting, and implementation initiatives.
- Participates in developing and implementing Department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
- Assists with managing the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and acts as the Finance Director in their absence.
- Directly or indirectly supervises finance department staff, including coaching, training and addressing personnel and performance issues.
- Oversees and performs reconciliation of accounting records, banking activity, and related financial systems to ensure the accurate recording of transactions.
- Directs and coordinates the annual audit process, including year-end closing activities, audit schedules, auditor requests, ACFR review, and required regulatory filings.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: A bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is required. A Master’s degree in a closely related field is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible financial administration, including three (3) years of supervisory experience, is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions in accordance with departmental policies, professional accounting standards, and Village objectives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex financial issues, identify solutions, and implement effective recommendations.
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage competing demands, and effectively coordinate work across multiple functional areas within the Finance Department.
- Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Village staff, operating departments, and the public.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: A certified Public Accountant is preferred.
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week* SALARY: $131,132-$174,843

*This is an exempt, full-time, in office position working Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Additional hours may be required as necessary to fulfill the responsibility of the role.
