River Grove, Illinois – Financial Analyst.  The Village of River Grove, IL is seeking candidates for a full-time Financial Analyst position.  Please note the following for this exciting opportunity.  

About the Village. The Village of River Grove (pop. 10,612), is a first-tier suburb of Chicago located   approximately 15 miles northwest of Chicago’s downtown.  Village residents and businesses are served by two Metra rail lines (North Central Service and Milwaukee District West) and have easy access to major highways (#90 and #294) that serve the Chicagoland area. The Village is home to Triton College, a community college district comprised of 26 surrounding suburbs. Additionally, the Village boasts a number of popular restaurants including the famous Gene and Jude’s hot dog stand, voted the best hot dog stand/restaurant in the United States after a poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal. 

The Village is served by a Village President/Mayor and Board of Trustees. Stable and effective leadership by elected officials and a dedicated Village staff recently resulted in an upgrade to the Village’s Standard and Poor’s credit rating from BBB to A+.  The Village’s 2024 budget is balanced with a healthy General Fund reserve.  The Village provides a full range of services, including police and fire protection, contracted refuse collection and emergency 9-1-1 communication services, snow and leaf removal, traffic control, building inspections, licenses and permits, construction and maintenance of streets, water and sewer and parks and recreation. The Village employs approximately 60 full-time and 75 part-time employees supplemented by approximately 15 seasonal employees during the year.

About the Position and Position Requirements.  The Financial Analyst will report to the CFO/Comptroller and will play a lead role in monitoring the overall day-to-day financial activities of the Finance Department.  These include accounts receivable, accounts payable, the annual audit, preparing financial reports and monitoring financial assets. Other key position responsibilities include:  preparing bank reconciliations, posting journal entries, grant applications and annual renewals, and providing high level customer service to both internal and external customers.  

The Department staff includes a contracted CFO, a Payroll/Accounts Payable Accountant and a part-time CPA/Finance/Accountant. In addition, a contracted accountant will be available to assist and acclimate, train and guide the Financial Analyst as needed.  Software programs used by the Department include: LOCIS, ACLARA and PayCom.   Promotional opportunities are anticipated within a two-three-year time frame.   

Position Qualifications. The Village is seeking a responsible and collaborative individual to help lead the Finance Department team.  The successful candidate will possess a strong attention to detail along with demonstrated problem solving skills.  The successful candidate will meet the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience. A CPA is desired but not required.  
  • Minimum of three years’ related experience.  Prefer experience working for a governmental agency, or with fund accounting.
  • Knowledge and experience with principles and best practices of accounting, finance, budgeting, internal controls, cash handling and cost control procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; including, but not limited to Word, Excel, etc.

Compensation and Benefits. The salary range is $70,000 - $100,000 with a target starting salary expected to be between $80,000-$87,000. DOQ.  The benefit package is extraordinary and includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), health insurance including medical, dental, and vision coverage (current monthly employee contributions are $0 for single, $50 for employee/spouse and $75 for family), an IRS Section 125 Plan with annual funding of $250 (single) and $500 (family), a transferable post-employment health care program with a 2% annual contribution based on an employee’s salary, life insurance, 457 deferred compensation plan, employee wellness and EAP.  The Village also provides paid vacation, holidays, three personal days and sick leave.  The Village will also consider candidates who prefer a hybrid work schedule after a reasonable employment time period of three to six months.
