The Village of Arlington Heights is seeking an experienced and analytical professional to join its Finance Department as a Financial Operations Analyst. This position plays a critical role in the Village's financial health by leading budget development, capital planning, treasury operations, and organizational analysis.
Working collaboratively with departments across the Village, the Financial Operations Analyst evaluates operational performance and helps guide data-driven decisions that support exceptional municipal services. Responsibilities include coordinating the Village's annual budget process, preparing financial forecasts, monitoring revenues and expenditures, analyzing financial trends, and developing recommendations that support strategic priorities and responsible fiscal stewardship. The position also coordinates the Village's multi-year Capital Improvement Program, working with departments to evaluate capital needs, analyze project costs, identify funding strategies, and support long-term financial planning.
The Financial Operations Analyst performs advanced accounting and treasury functions, including preparing journal entries, reconciling financial records, supporting the annual audit, administering the Chart of Accounts and Project Ledger, and preparing the Village's annual property tax levy, debt service schedules, and Treasurer's Report. The position develops financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for the Village Board and leadership while leading special projects focused on financial systems, process improvement, and organizational effectiveness.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills who enjoys translating complex financial information into meaningful recommendations. Successful candidates will possess exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, along with four to six years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, or a related field. Experience with governmental finance is highly desirable.
The anticipated starting salary for this position is between $98,277-$106,000, depending on qualifications, with a full salary range of $98,277-$132,676. The Financial Analyst will work a 37.5-hour work week and be offered a competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, professional development opportunities, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan.
