Community & Position Summary

The Village of Lisle is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Accounting Specialist within the Finance Department. The successful candidate for this position will possess a strong attention to detail, prioritize accuracy, be able to communicate effectively, and openly collaborate in a team environment.

Lisle is a vibrant and dynamic community located in Chicago’s western suburbs with significant economic opportunity and a high quality of life.  Called “The Arboretum Village,” the community is situated along the prestigious I-88 Corporate Corridor just 26 miles west of Chicago’s loop in DuPage County.  Lisle has a nature-themed redeveloped downtown, and approximately 750 businesses located in a variety of business districts.  It is home to many corporate headquarters including AST, Navistar, Molex, SunCoke, and AMITA Health, has beautiful neighborhoods, three full-service hotels, Benedictine University, a growing local/independent restaurant scene, extensive recreational opportunities including the West Suburban Sports Complex, and excellent schools all within just a short train ride to downtown Chicago. The community has a major commercial corridor along Ogden Avenue with access to the north/south and east/west tollways just minutes away. 

Under the general direction of the Assistant Finance Director, this individual will perform a variety of accounting tasks related to daily and monthly general ledger activity, perform various account and bank reconciliations, prepare financial reports, and maintain accounting records. The individual holding this position will also be responsible for the coordination and completion of the accounts payable and receivable processes and audit preparation tasks.

Principal Responsibilities

Assists in refininig business practices through the recommendation and implementation of improvements to policies and procedures.

Reconciles bank accounts with general ledger cash accounts, makes journal entries, and manages financial closing process on a monthly basis. Examines accounting transactions to ensure accuracy and makes adjustments and accrual entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Assists with annual audit preparation, including collection and compiling of schedules and other requested information; prepares vendor listing for Annual Treasurer’s Report.

Manages accounts receivable process by generating invoices and statements for customers and monitors customer accounts for non-payment.

Receives, reviews, and processes all incoming invoices and enters into software system for payment processing; creates accounts payable list for Village Board approval.

Responds to inquiries from customers and vendors; prepares annual 1099’s and maintains W-9 vendor listing per IRS regulations.

Processes purchase requisitions; reviews, generates, and approves purchase orders.

Assists with the processing of payroll on an as-needed basis.

Key Competencies

Ability to work effectively in a team environment supporting fellow employees and making constructive recommendations to improve processes and drive efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills, and Proficiencies

Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and initiate efforts to address identified needs and/or improve business processes.

Proficient in the use of office equipment and modern software systems; the conduct of office procedures and best-practice customer service.

Knowledge of state, local and federal laws and regulations.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or closely related field.

Two to four years recent work experience; experience in a municipal government or public body strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include regularly talking, hearing, traveling from place to place, handling objects, and reaching with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies that weigh up to 25 pounds as well as operate office machinery. 

Ability to perform a variety of physical and mental skills including but not limited to standing or sitting for extended periods of time, reading and writing, preparing and presenting material in a formal setting, performing complex mathematical computations, making sound decisions and using good judgment and demonstrating intellectual and communication capabilities.

Compensation

Hiring range for this position is $24.64 to $34.49 per hour DOQ.  Excellent benefits.
