Job Title: Accounts Receivable & Associate Billing Specialist

Position: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; Position is not eligible for remote work

Pay Range: $55,000 Plus or Minus Depending upon Qualifications - Non-Exempt/Hourly

The Account Receivable/Associate Billing Specialist is responsible for processing and monitoring incoming payments as well as performing organizational, customer service, and accounting related tasks in support of the organization's financial health under the direction of the Billing Supervisor. The key duties of this role include timely and accurate recording and posting of all payments as well as controlling and safeguarding any incoming funds.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform accurate cashiering duties by receiving, receipting, and recording payments for sewer accounts; balancing collections; applying service fees; posting mail and electronic payments.
  • First in line for receiving and directing customers and incoming calls; Responds to face-to-face, telephone, email or written inquiries from utility customers and referring matters to the Billing Supervisor or Executive Director as appropriate.
  • Maintains and updates customer files: updating existing accounts, noting customer accounts, and attaching account documentation. Create final bills letters according to company policy and practices.
  • Provides clerical and administrative assistance, encompassing tasks such as preparing correspondence, reviewing, processing, and imaging documents, as well as handling filing and record management. Preparing the conference room for monthly board meetings, handling incoming and outgoing mail, maintaining, and restocking office, kitchen and bathroom supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Supervisor. Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in accounting, bookkeeping, and meticulous cash handling record-keeping practices.
  • Strong knowledge of data collection practices and software, computers and electronic data processing, modern office equipment, practices, and procedures, Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and the internet.
  • Ability to multi-task with numerous and frequent interruptions.
  • Execute tasks accurately and efficiently within time-sensitive deadlines, exhibit strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to seamlessly perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other District employees, supervisory personnel, local elected officials, vendors, and the public.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, adept at diffusing challenging situations, and effective, professional communication both verbally and in writing.

Education and Experience:

Associate degree or higher in Accounting or a related field, along with relevant experience; alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

3+ years accounts receivable, collections and customer service experience, preferably with a public utility/agency.

Fluency in English is required; bilingual Spanish-English language skills is a plus.
