Assistant Finance Director | Village of Westmont

The Assistant Finance Director serves as a key fiscal leader, reporting to the Director of Finance, with primary responsibility for the complex oversight of the Accounting Division's daily operations and safeguarding the Village's financial integrity via expert reporting and strategic financial management.  In this role, the ideal candidate has the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the quality of life of Westmont residents and improve the work experience for employees at the Village.  We enjoy a collaborative relationship within the Finance team as well as with all departments of the Village and are looking for someone who can positively contribute to this dynamic!


Day to Day Life as Assistant Finance Director

  • Partner with the Finance Director to align the Village’s strategic ’big picture' goals and objectives with both daily and long term financial decisions 

  • Direct the daily coordination and execution of critical accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, compliance and reporting 

  • Engage cooperatively within a team environment, fostering strong working relationships with staff, management and elected officials 

  • Responsible for the preparation and verification of accurate and reliable financial reports for both the Village of Westmont and Westmont Public Library


Experience and attributes that will contribute to success in this role:

  • Strong accounting and financial reporting background with at least 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a municipal environment

  • Demonstrated capacity to think creatively and apply analytical rigor to complex financial problems, developing and implementing effective, well-thought-out solutions

  • Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic, consistently taking initiative to manage workload, meet deadlines and pursue continuous improvement in processes

  • Ability to work with and communicate complex financial information effectively across all levels of the organization

  • Experience using complex ERP systems as well as Google Workspace or the Microsoft Office Suite
