Finance Assistant | Northwest Central Dispatch System / Northwest Central 9-1-1 System

The Northwest Central Dispatch System (NWCDS) is an intergovernmental consolidated emergency dispatch system, providing 9-1-1 services for several communities in northwest suburban Chicago. Internal growth has created the need for a part-time Finance Assistant. Primary responsibilities include the processing of biweekly payroll, support for benefit enrollments/changes, and routine accounting tasks such as accounts receivable and accounts payable.

Minimum qualifications include:
- Two years of prior payroll experience is required, preferably in a union environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to work independently, one-on-one, and in a group environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and follow-up.
- Proven customer service/interpersonal skills with a strong moral/ethical character.
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Illinois drivers license.
- Ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute.
- Proficient in the English language, both oral and written.
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Experience using Paycom web-based payroll.
- Experience using QuickBooks Desktop accounting software.
- Understanding of municipal retirement benefits including IMRF and MissionSquare 457 plans.
- Post-secondary coursework or degree in accounting/finance or business.
- Experience working in government/municipal finance and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Hours are expected to be two to three 8-hour days per week and may increase over time. Opportunities to occasionally work remotely may be offered, however the position is primarily on site.
Salary range for this position is $33.91 to $37.44 per hour. Starting salary is anticipated to be towards the lower end of the range but may be adjusted commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include part-time paid leave (PLAWA). This position has the potential for future growth and may lead to a full-time, benefit eligible role that includes additional paid leave, health insurance and pension.
