Addison Park District, Illinois (pop. 37,000). The Addison Park District is seeking a team-oriented and flexible professional to be its Finance Manager. The Finance Manager oversees all day-to-day financial activities of the District.
The Addison Park District, located in northeastern DuPage County, was formed in 1969 and currently has 25 park sites encompassing more than 280 acres. The park district consists of nine square miles and serves a population of approximately 37,000 in the Chicago metropolitan area.
The district has two major community parks, Community Park on the east side of Addison, and Centennial Park on the west side of town. Centennial Park houses Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA) and a state-of-the-art fitness facility, Club Fitness. Both sites have community centers with a gym, meeting rooms, and activity rooms. Community Park hosts the outdoor Splash Pad as well as the Active Adult senior leisure center. Additionally, the Park District co-owns a gymnasium with Elementary School District #4 at Army Trail School. The Links & Tees Golf Facility on Lake Street features an outdoor practice range, 9-hole golf course, Putter’s Peak adventure mini-golf course, and an indoor golf dome.
The Park District Board is made up of five elected Addison residents who serve six-year terms. The Board is responsible for the creation of Park District Policy and for overseeing the Finances of the District. It is the responsibility of the District’s Executive Director and the Administrative staff to carry out these policies and to manage the day-to-day operations of the District. The 2022 budget for the Park District is approximately $8 million.
About the Position
The Finance Manager, directly reporting to the Superintendent of Human Resources & Business Services, oversees all day-to-day financial activities of the District; including, but not limited to the accounting staff (currently one accountant position), financial budgets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll reports, the annual audit, and monitoring all financial assets. The Finance Manager provides direction for current and future financial planning and best practices to the Superintendent of Business Services, Executive Director and Board.
Position Qualifications
The Park District is seeking a responsible and collaborative Manager to lead the Finance administration team. The successful candidate will meet the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in similar role, with supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience with principles and best practices of accounting, finance, budgeting, internal controls, cash handling, and cost control procedure.
- Prefer experience working for a park district or governmental agency, or with fund accounting, in similar role
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; including, but not limited to Word, Excel, etc.
- Experience using Incode Financial and/or RecTrac or similar software preferred
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated starting salary range is $60,000 - $65,000 +/- DOQ. A comprehensive benefits package includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), health insurance including medical, dental, and vision coverage (also available to dependents), life insurance, 457, wellness and EAP. The District also offers paid vacation, holidays (including floating), personal days and sick leave, along with a variety of Park District memberships and privileges.
