DESCRIPTION:
The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Accountant. The job duties of the Part-Time Accountant include, but are not limited to, performing advanced professional level duties and responsibilities in the field of accounting with a focus on the Village Links and Reserve 22 golf course and restaurant; acting as a liaison between the Finance and Village Links/Reserve 22 departments, preparing and maintaining account ledgers, reporting of financial data, formulating reports and reconciliations, and assisting with the annual audit of the golf course and restaurant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares journal entries and accruals; assists with daily cash handling and reporting.
- Establishes and prepares financial statements for Recreation Commission and Finance Commission.
- Prepares and files Illinois Sales Tax and Food and Beverage Tax filings.
- Completes annual audit workpapers as assigned.
- Coordinates annual budget process by maintaining templates for revenues, operating expenses, capital expenditures, and debt and interest.
- Reconciles recreation bank statements and purchasing card statements; prepares corrections as needed.
- Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual inventories.
- Oversees compliance with record retention policies and procedures for Village Links/Reserve 22.
- Maintains capital asset records for Village Links/Reserve 22.
- Assists with tracking for licenses and permits.
- Posts all required agendas and supporting documents for Recreation Commission meetings and Village Board Meetings.
- Performs a variety of financial support duties, including payroll time entry, Cost of Goods Sold reports, data analysis, data requests, etc.
- Perform general administrative tasks as assigned by General Manager or Finance Director.
- Manage and follow up on accounts receivable for Village Links/Reserve 22.
- Contributes to the overall quality of the department's service provision by recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff; acts to promote a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates applying for this position should possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, along with two (2) years of professional experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
The Village is seeking a candidate who maintains a professional demeanor when dealing with the public and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. residents, employees and senior management). The position requires the ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures; work independently, efficiently plan work and establish priorities; along with comprehend, retain, and apply Village, State and Federal polices and legislation.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience using enterprise financial/accounting software systems; prior experience using MUNIS (Tyler Technologies) would be ideal. Previous work experience in golf course/restaurant/hospitality operations is a plus but not required. Candidates must be computer savvy and have excellent MS Office software skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
WORK SCHEDULE
The general work schedule will be less than 30 hours per week, not to meet or exceed 1560 hours in any year. Scheduling will be flexible in the window of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, alternative hours will be required for month-end and year-end inventories and as needed for special events, training, holidays, vacations and/or emergency situations.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
This part-time position is non-exempt under the FLSA and includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan, with accrued paid time off beginning on the first day of employment. The salary range for this position is $30.95 to $43.33 per hour, with an anticipated starting salary of $30.95 to $37.14 per hour depending on qualifications (Pay Grade: H).
