Payroll Specialist | City of Naperville

- Performs payroll processing functions, including data entry, verification and correction, and documentation of data adjustments.
- Accurately keys payroll-related new hire data, makes updates in the timekeeping system and maintains payroll records and files.
- Creates, maintains, and revises payroll modules to reflect and capture accurate employee earnings, tax withholding, and benefits codes.
- Ensures payroll processing complies with applicable laws, regulations, and City policies.
- Interprets language from collective bargaining agreements and translates it into accurate mathematical calculations for appropriate payroll processing.
- Provides payroll system support to internal clients.
- Responds to internal and external payroll inquiries, including credit verification requests.
- Processes pay garnishments in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Research recommends and implements procedural changes to improve and enhance payroll processing operations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required:
- Associate degree in accounting, finance, human resources or related field
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience
Preferred:
- Government payroll experience
- Experience in processing union timekeeping and payroll
