Utility Billing Clerk | Village of Westmont

Are you a self-starter with a passion for customer service who enjoys working independently on projects?

We are seeking an individual to manage water utility billing processes and procedures. In this role, you will help our community resolve billing issues and ensure their questions are answered accurately. This position is part of the Public Works Department and involves close collaboration with the Finance Department.

While every day may be different, a glimpse into a day of the Utility Billing Specialist: 

  • Welcome new customers to the Village and get them set up with water and garbage service
  • Pull the data file for the billing cycle from the Sensus system and prepare it for billing
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding utility and garbage bills
  • Schedules water meter exchanges and installations and updates related system records
  • Schedules final reads and prepared final bills
  • Participate in the annual water audit for IDNR
  • Analyze the water meter reading system and proactively review alerts for notification to staff and customers as needed

Where has your education and experience led you?

  • The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self directed and highly motivated. Work is time sensitive and requires a high degree of accuracy.
  • This position requires a significant amount of customer interaction, occasionally in tense situations. The successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with customers on the phone and in person, as well as diffusing angry customers.
  • Experience in Tyler Munis and Sensus AMI is a plus.
  • Reliable attendance is essential for success.

This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The starting wage range
is $29.26/hr – $38.41/hr (DOQ).

All employees must reside in DuPage County or in a county contiguous to DuPage County as of satisfactory completion of the qualification period.
