Utility Billing Account Clerk | Village of Carpentersville

Job Summary

The Account Clerk performs a variety of utility billing functions related to the processing of water and sewer bills for the Village, which includes completing all documents for the collection of water and sewer bills, filing, maintaining the promissory note payment schedules for resident payment plans, preparing shut-off notices, running cash receipt reports to verify accuracy of information, and preparing other related reports as needed. This position is involved in various accounting, finance, and customer service operations including resident move-ins and move-outs; crediting payments to accounts; debiting returned payments (also following up on collecting returned items); preparing outstanding receivables for collections; and assisting in the annual audit when required.

Requirements

The requirements for this position include a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of customer service or clerical experience. College coursework in finance, accounting, or business is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Fluency in Spanish is also preferred, but not required.

The successful candidate must be detail-oriented with accurate and timely data entry skills. The candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and exercise reasonable judgement and sound problem-solving. The candidate must demonstrate and maintain the ability to be professional at all times, deliver a high level of customer service, and communicate effectively with coworkers and the public.
