Position Responsibilities:  Performs intermediate administrative work preparing and maintaining the general ledger, budget and other financial records; assists in planning, organizing and managing in the financial activities of the Village, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Finance Director, independent thought and the ability to work through tasks are essential.

 Essential Functions:

  • Reviews and monitors accounts, deposit and credit transactions; ensures sufficient available funds for accounts payable and payroll; transfers funds as needed; reviews investment options and makes recommendations.
  • Performs audit responsibilities including preparation and work papers; monitors fixed asset accounting procedures.
  • Assists with payroll processing including review and approval; performs back-up responsibilities; prepares journal entries; assists with W-2's.
  • Maintains the General Ledger including review and reconciliation of various accounts; creates journal entries to maintain and update General Ledger.
  • Prepares annual reports such as TIF reports, Annual Treasurers Report and various grant reports.   
  • Functions as Finance Representative for external and internal customers; handles external customer issues; assists staff with various financial reports/information/implementations of projects.
  • Extracts information from financial software to prepare concise reports for other departments and state agencies.
  • Assists in special projects as designated by the Finance Director.

 Position Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree with coursework in accounting, finance, or related field and moderate experience in governmental accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Local government and auditing experience preferred.  Candidate must be willing to work in a team environment and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

 Compensation and Benefits:  Starting annual salary is $65,000 - $80,000 depending upon qualifications. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave, and participation in the IMRF pension fund.
