Accounts Payable Specialist (Finance Assistant) | Village of Gurnee

Work Schedule 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday

Hourly rate of pay $27.00+ / hour depending on qualifications / experience.  Full time position; benefits include paid health / dental insurance; life insurance; retirement pension (IMRF); paid time off. 

General Duties / Responsibilities:  performing a variety of administrative support functions including accounts payable, business licensing, collection and reconciliation of local business taxes, customer service, and front desk coverage as needed.  The position includes regular interaction with residents and the public.  This position also assists with special projects along with other related tasks as assigned.

Qualified candidates will have accounting experience with ability to work independently, take initiative to investigate and resolve issues by following proper procedures, and respond to rapidly changing priorities in a multi-tasked environment.  The ability to prioritize and organize work along with strong communication skills is essential.  Attention to detail a must.  Municipal accounting experience and experience working with Tyler Munis ERP system is strongly preferred.  Bilingual – Spanish speaking desirable.

General minimum requirements include:  Associates degree in accounting, finance, or related curriculum; 3-5+ years’ experience in accounting / finance performing work of a comparable nature.  Other combinations of education and experience, which could provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job, may be considered.
