Village Government
Round Lake is located in Lake County, Illinois, approximately 50 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop. Although Round Lake is a suburban setting, the Village offers quick access to a plethora of amenities, services and entertainment while preserving the quiet rural lifestyle desired by its residents. The Village has a total FY 2022 budget for all funds of approximately $13.8 million.
Position Summary
The Finance team is comprised of 2 full-time and 1 part-time staff. The Assistant Finance Director will serve as the Village Treasurer and oversee the day-to-day administration of the financial functions. Additional responsibilities include supervising the work of the Finance team, reviewing and maintaining the general ledger, reporting of financial data, formulating reports and reconciliations, preparation for the Village’s annual audit, processing of month-end and year-end journal entries, and special projects as assigned. This position will serve as an integral member of the Village’s budget team and capital planning process. The position reports to the Assistant Village Administrator.
Ideal Candidate
The Assistant Finance Director is a key member of the Village’s Finance team, requiring comprehensive knowledge of fiscal administration principles and practices of municipal accounting, including leadership abilities and management skills that are based upon consensus building, visioning and problem solving. They will have a passion for excellence, be financially savvy, have a strong work ethic, ability to exercise excellent judgement to make independent decisions, and a proven ability to work effectively across the organization. They will have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate at all levels and the ability to deliver public presentations.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary range for this position is $95,000 - $105,000. The Village offers a full range of benefits, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; flexible spending accounts; IMRF and 457 plans; and paid vacation, sick and holiday time.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or related field and four (4) to six (6) years of progressively responsible financial administration related experience. Previous supervisory and municipal government experience preferred. A CPA or be progressing toward earning a CPA is a plus. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities will be considered.
