The Village of Buffalo Grove is seeking a collaborative and analytical Deputy Finance Director to support the leadership and operations of the Finance and General Services Department. This position assists the Finance Director in overseeing core financial functions and ensuring the effective stewardship of the Village’s financial resources.
This role also contributes to long-range financial planning, preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), financial analysis, and implementation of financial systems and process improvements. - Assist the Finance Director in managing day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and provide leadership in their absence.
- Oversee core financial functions, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, revenue collections, and financial systems.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and optimization of the Village’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- Supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff; coordinate annual goal setting; provide coaching and performance management; and support recruitment activities.
- Coordinate the year-end financial close, annual external audit, and related compliance and reporting requirements.
- Take a leadership role in preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and other financial reports in accordance with GASB standards.
- Assist with long-term financial planning, forecasting, and cost-of-service analysis.
- Coordinate and prepare the Village’s annual budget, including financial analysis, preparation of budget documents, and collaboration with department leaders.
- Lead special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university required.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
- CPA and/or CPFO designation preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in municipal accounting and/or public administration.
- Demonstrated experience with governmental accounting, financial reporting, ACFR preparation, budgeting, and billing operations.
- Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience, including leadership, mentoring, and performance management.
- Knowledge of GAAP, governmental accounting systems, fund accounting, bonds, revenue sources, and applicable state and federal laws.
- Proficiency with automated financial systems, accounting software, and related technology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct budgetary and financial research and analysis.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to build collaborative working relationships across departments.
- Most work is performed in an office environment with frequent interaction with staff and the public; occasional evening work and off-site meetings may be required.
