To assist with the planned growth of the Village, Hawthorn Woods is seeking an experienced finance professional to serve as its next Director of Finance. This position is an important part of the Village’s leadership team and is responsible for overseeing the Village’s financial operations while providing guidance and recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer, Village Board, and department heads.

The Director of Finance reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and oversees the Finance Department staff, including budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, cash management, financial records, and the annual audit process. The Director also assists with long-term financial planning and works to maintain sound fiscal practices that support the Village’s continued financial stability.

Position Summary

The Director of Finance is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the financial activities of the Village. This includes oversight of payroll, financial records, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, and the preparation and coordination of the annual audits and budget documents. The Director of Finance provides financial guidance and recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer, Village Board, and department heads and assists with long-term financial planning. The Director of Finance also serves as a staff liaison for the Finance Committee and is responsible for maintaining appropriate financial controls and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Village policies. Most importantly, this position ensures the financial solvency of the Village.

The Director of Finance is part of the Executive Leadership Team of the Village and serves as official Treasurer of the municipality. The Director of Finance oversees the Finance Department personnel and attends monthly Board of Trustee meetings to directly report departmental activities to the elected officials.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in finance, accounting, public administration, business administration, or related field required; preferred candidate possesses an advanced degree in aforementioned fields, from an accredited institution and is comfortable with financial software technology.

 Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $138,000-$188,880/DOQ
