Finance Director | City of Zion

The City of Zion, IL is seeking qualified applicants to join its talented and dedicated team as the Finance Director. The City of Zion is located 32 miles north of Chicago, IL and south of Milwaukee, WI. The City of Zion, IL is a historic and beautiful community with thriving and charming downtown stamped concrete sidewalks surrounded by unique storefronts of coffee shop cafes, boutique shops and bistro restaurants. Zion, IL includes the Metra station, public library and charming parks where live musical concerts and special events are held in the summer.

Under the direction of the City Administrator and Commissioner of Finance, The Finance Director will assist the City Administrator on day-to-day City operations. This position will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating all municipal financial activities. We are looking for a leader who is a self-starter with high ethics and integrity, who embraces city government and transparency as well as having a solid management, financial and operational skills background.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Finance Director will be responsible for assisting and supporting the City Administrator with managing all financial tasks within the City of Zion. These tasks include, but not limited to, maintaining and establishing financial policies, maintaining the city budget, general ledger, account reconciliation and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). In addition, he or she will assist and support the oversight of payment of bills, payroll, budgeting, tax levy preparation, annual audits and daily cash management. The Finance Director is expected to attend and participate with meetings of the City Council and various City events and functions. This position will be responsible for the supervision of the Accounts and Finance Department personnel, which includes the Assistant to the Finance Director, two Accounting Technologists and one Administrative Secretary.

The requirements for this position require a four-year degree in finance, accounting or public administration or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities will be considered. CPA certification is preferred, but not required.

Requires five years of accounting experience, city government preferred. Strong working knowledge of the laws and ordinances governing municipal accounting, budgetary planning and control, as well as required financial reporting for a City. Supervisory experience in municipal finances is a plus.

The successful candidate should have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate honesty, ethical actions and principles and integrity.

The Successful candidate should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and various other financial computer software programs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The salary range for this position is from $115,000 - $130,000 based on qualification and experience.
