Speakers: Jennie Urquiza-Whitiker, Senior Grants Coordinator, Peoria Police Department and Seth Crackel, Strategic Energy Advisor, Nania Energy Advisors
Description: During this session, panelists will present the different types of grants available to Illinois municipalities along with the resources that can be leveraged to identify and evaluate such opportunities. Panelists will also explain the Inflation Reduction Act, the types of projects that could qualify for Federal tax incentives and how the current administration could impact these funding opportunities.
Learning Objectives: Participants completing this session will be able to:
- List three different types of grants and understand the importance of studying the notice of funding opportunity.
- Understand the main resources for finding grant opportunities and have a general knowledge regarding “grant readiness” as it relates to municipalities.
- Determine which types of projects qualify for the Inflation Reduction Act incentives for their municipality.
- Understand the key energy related provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as the anticipated changes, as it relates to municipalities.

Speaker: Kristin Olson, Grant Writing Specialist, Grants Galore
Description: This session will describe the grant review process and the screen-out factors that grant makers use to narrow the field before the scoring begins. Then the presenter will cover various tricks of the trade to help grantseekers improve their chances of opening a letter that begins, “Your proposal has been selected for funding.”
Learning Objectives: Participants completing this session will be able to:
- Understand the grant review process.
- Be able to identify and avoid grant makers’ screen-out factors.
- Apply strategies to achieve higher grant scores.

Registration & Cancellation Policy
Payments by check should be mailed in advance or made at time of registration by credit card.
Cancellation of an event registration is subject to the following policy:
• No refunds will be given for cancellations the day of the event and no shows.
• For IGFOA event registration cancellations five (5) business days or more prior to an event, refunds will be offset by a $50 cancellation fee.
• For IGFOA event registration cancellations within five (5) business days of the training, refunds will be offset by a cancellation fee of 50% of the registration fee.
• A substitute attendee may be designated provided that the payment has been made and the IGFOA office has been notified in advance.
• Cancellation policy for chapter events may differ from this policy at the chapters’ discretion.
• A written request for a refund must be emailed to the IGFOA prior to the event.
By submitting this registration, the applicant agrees to the registration and cancellation policy above.
IGFOA reserves the right to modify the agenda and/or speakers, cancel the training due to low enrollment, or to close registration if full. Should IGFOA cancel an event, cancellation notice will be sent to the email address provided by each registrant and prominently posted at the IGFOA website page announcing the event.
