Speaker:Mark Fowler, Executive Director, NWMC  

This session will provide a status report on the spring session of the 104th General Assembly. With over 6,600 bills introduced this session, legislators and stakeholders have their work cut out for them to navigate legislation through the process, culminating in the scheduled May 31 adjournment. In particular, over one hundred bills have been introduced proposing to make adjustments to public pensions, ranging from rolling back Tier 2 state and local pensions to other enhancements that can have a big impact. The presentation will focus on municipal pensions, especially public safety pensions. 

LearningObjectives:

  • Learn about the spring session of the General Assembly, including important deadlines and ways to affect legislation pending in Springfield 

  • Learn about key bills threatening to undo critical reforms to public safety pensions and enhance current benefits 

  • Learn about the advocacy efforts to protect Tier 2 municipal pensions
