Event Description

Presented by the Young Professionals Network
Lessons Learned From a Career in Municipal Finance

Guest Speaker is Mr. Michael D. Belsky, Executive Director of the Center for Municipal Finance at the Harris School of Public Policy, University of Chicago.  Mike Belsky’s career journey has been highlighted by positions at the highest levels of municipal government leadership. His time as Mayor of one of the most well-regarded suburbs in Chicagoland, head of Public Finance for both Mesirow Financial and Fitch Ratings Agency, and his current role as the Executive Director of University of Chicago’s Center for Municipal Finance have provided him with a well-rounded perspective of all areas of public finance.

In this presentation, he will lean on those unique experiences to provide anecdotal accounts of what he has seen and learned in the hopes of shaping today’s young professionals into
tomorrow’s municipal finance leaders.
