Clerk – Finance Department

Starting Salary: $44,350 DOQ

Full Salary Range: $44,350 – $59,557

The City of Des Plaines is seeking a Finance Clerk to support the Finance Department’s daily operations. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, organized, and customer-focused, with a passion for numbers and public service.

About the Role:

The Finance Clerk performs a variety of administrative and financial tasks, with a focus on billing, cashiering, and customer service. You’ll interact with residents and staff, process payments, handle account inquiries, and support department functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional customer service in person, by phone, and email
  • Generate and follow up on miscellaneous billing invoices
  • Process payments for utilities, parking, permits, and more
  • Balance the cash drawer and assist with daily deposits

What You Bring:

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum of one year of relevant work experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Customer Service Focus: Ability to communicate clearly, resolve concerns professionally, and serve as a positive representative of the City.
  • Team-Oriented: Collaborative spirit with a willingness to support team members and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn and work with financial and billing software.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and complete tasks accurately and on schedule.
  • Professionalism: Reliable, dependable, and able to maintain confidentiality and composure in a fast-paced environment.
