This position is a full time on-site position reporting to the City of Batavia's City Hall building.
A typical work schedule for this position is Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Hiring Salary Range: $60,751 - $71,335 DOQ
Full salary range: $60,751 - $83,766
Pay grade 7 on the City of Batavia's 2025 wage and salary ordinance non-exempt with excellent benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY
This is a position responsible for administrative, fiscal, and clerical work in the City’s Finance Department. Work involves complex administrative, accounting and financial management functions. Work includes calculating, verifying, posting, and balancing a variety of financial transactions for various aspects of the City’s accounting system, and performance of general office support activities. Problem-solving skills and independent decision-making are required. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Assistant Finance Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain property tax spreadsheet, prepare and enter journal entries. Ensure payment of property taxes to the appropriate pension fund. Reconcile property taxes to the County distribution.
Balance bank statements, balance cash accounts to investment software and bank.
Prepare journal entries of investments purchased and sold. Post interest received by fund for all bank accounts.
Ensure positive cash balances in all bank accounts by fund. Does inter-fund bank transfers as necessary between funds in City’s accounting software and investment software.
Maintain spreadsheets for major revenue sources and prepare charts and comparative analysis.
Prepare month end City Council Financial Reports.
Maintain grant files, submit for grant reimbursements.
Reviews and monitor city credit card use.
Maintain spreadsheets for city’s capital asset listings. Assist in the year-end preparation of asset additions and retirements. Prepare and enters year end accruals. Assist with annual audit.
Assist with budget preparation. Prepare charts and do data entry as directed. Coordinate with other departments regarding budgetary items and entry into budget software. Assists with Capital Improvements Plan.
Prepare multiple charts and graphs of financial data.
Prepare tax levy ordinances with the direction of the Assistant Finance Director.
Conduct research as requested. Prepares fiscal studies, income and expenditure estimates, and financial reports.
Perform miscellaneous duties such as scanning, responding to requests from the public, preparing letters, and following up on items as needed.
Serve as backup to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent; three or more years of full-time work experience in accounting may substitute for education requirement; experience in Fund Accounting is preferred but not required; possess a willingness to learn; any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge
Considerable knowledge involving Financial Software, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word. Extensive understanding of Excel and creation of charts is a must.
Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures, terminology, and equipment.
Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles and procedures, with a full understanding of A/R, A/P, and preparation of Journal Entries.
Sufficient knowledge of governmental accounting and related systems and procedures.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to maintain financial records and to prepare financial reports.
Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
Ability to be well organized, work independently and work under deadlines from time to time.
