The purpose of this position is to maintain the financial and accounting records of the Village including maintaining the general ledger system, recording journal entries and financial activity, coordinating the monthly closing process, preparing monthly bank reconciliations and account analyses, and assisting with all Finance Department functions, as needed. This position acts under the supervision of the Assistant Finance Director.

Essential Functions 

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Maintains General Ledger including reviewing and preparing journal entries for posting.
• Performs month-end closing by ensuring all financial activity for each month has been posted.
• Manages escrow accounts by posting new deposits and refunds, reconciling total escrow deposits to the General Ledger, and distributing the reconciliation report on a monthly basis.
• Prepares monthly bank reconciliations by analyzing bank account activity, reconciling bank statements to the General Ledger, and resolving all discrepancies.
• Assists with monthly financial processing including journal entries, bank account and investment activity, reclassifications, transfers of funds, and escrow account transactions.
• Conducts daily cash management activities by reviewing cash receipts, verifying proper coding, and reconciling to the daily bank deposit.
• Supports the Village's annual audit by providing account analyses to reconcile to fiscal year-end General Ledger balances and preparing and reviewing journal entries and required audit schedules.
• Provides guidance to staff, responds to inquiries regarding accounting matters, and offers recommendations regarding accounting policies, procedures, and software.
• Collaborates with other departments and external parties to resolve accounting issues.
• Prepares ACH files to collect various payments.
• Processes allocations for interdepartmental expenses.
• Serves as a back-up for payroll processing
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Required Qualifications

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field and three (3) years’ experiences with professional level computerized accounting including proficiency in Excel or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Municipal accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with Tyler software preferred but not required.
